Making one extreme car do it all sounds like an amazing challenge, but winter is a very real thing. So whats the better way to use up your car budget, one car for everything or 2 cars with different purposes?

The 240sx is quite rad. I will note, however, that the rules can be gamed: get the winter driver that isn’t a car - SNOCAT

Just make the 240SX do everything.

I think we all know that the 240sx is the real fantastic car here.

I really want a convertible though. After you chop the top of that thing you could feel the chassis flex a mile before the corner.

I’ll take two great cars. My automotive attention deficit disorder would make me get bored of the fantastic car, even if it was the one car I've always dreamed about. I just can't be happy with any one car.

Mountain adjacent houses are expensive.

That should only help to enhance the sketchy fun.
On a more serious note: if you are able and willing to pay the costs associated with the Elise (you do not want to get in a fender bender, those clams are amazingly expensive), I’d say go for it. Otherwise get an S2000, drive it through winter as well, and put the rest of the money in a savings jar for your next purchase.

Does that mean you’re unhappy with your Civic, or do you have another car I don’t know about?

The two cars are just so good that it doesn’t matter. Go for 2

I see one great car vs one great car and one amazeballs car (the lifted driftmachine)
In all seriousness, for the price of an Elise, just pick up an MRS and drop in the 2ZZ from the Lotus for half the price.

Yea when it comes time to actually put money down I’m sure I’ll get my adult on and just get an S2k. Which is hardly a bad thing.
But never the less:

I’m more of the only mod the exhaust kind of enthusiast. Swaps are cool but my car calls a parking garage home.

Pay someone else to do it. Still half the price.

They really are both amazing. That 240 would be a great project car/winter beater and the S2k is well, an S2k.

Personally I would get the lotus... Except that I don't think I fit in one. Exotic wins every time.

Well, my wife owns a ‘10 Corolla. But basically it’s just my Civic. And I am a bit unhappy with it, because it’s just boring. Part of that is my fault for buying one with a CVT though.
Don’t get me wrong, the Civic is a perfectly fine vehicle for what I need a vehicle for. I just am bored of it. Trying to think back, in the 23 years I’ve been driving, I think the longest I’ve had any vehicle was maybe 3 years. The Civic might surpass that though, because I can’t really justify getting something different when all I really need is something that drives me back and forth to work, while getting decent gas mileage. Oh yeah, and having a student loan I’m still paying, so no $$ for a better car.

I really do appreciate the inclusion of a back window with a central slide from a pickup. The Xterra roof rack is awesome too. Also, I totally want to RB boss kit that.

Reliable Daily Driver, then project (go fast), then another project (go anywhere). Sprinkle in motorcycles and bicycles for flavor.

Yeah, but like everything there is a balance. Don’t fall into the pit of having five shitty cars and no good cars. And also try not to have too much overlap. I can’t understand why someone would have three sports cars for instance and no trucks or comfy cars. But I suppose this is getting into personal preferences.

That student loan repayment life is real .... I’m just trying my best to ignore it now and buy a new car. Before something major breaks on my current car.

Don’t get too worried. I’m buying a sports car so I can sell my current sports car. I’ve really enjoyed driving my RWD cars in the winter so if I even get to a winter beater it’d be a surprise.

I’ve always been a fan of RWD in snow. I think it gives you more control if you know what you’re doing.

Im just gonna say.... The guy that I bought my s2000 from I talk to now and then. He was regretful for selling it to get a Lotus. He likes his lotus, but wants his s2k back. Which will never happen since I will be buried in that car. The point of what I am saying... for the love of god... get the s2k.

I don’t know if that is great or terrible news. Great becasue I’ll probably get an S2K, but terrible because the Elise has always been a dream car.
Also your car is damn near perfect. If you don’t mind me asking what’d you pay for it?

I paid 15.5k with 80k miles and the paint matched hard top. I spent a year shopping for it. The previous owner had put an aftermarket exhaust on it but returned it to stock because...in his words “it just wasnt as good as the car was stock”
Its was really an insane deal. The car is a no accident one owner texas car that had been stored (and occassionally driven) in wisconsin for about a year.
I had a FoST that i sold to get it and it was far an away the best life decision i have ever made. I hope, in life, i never find myself without an s2k ever again. God forbid this one ever gets totaled...i would go out and buy another, i wouldnt consider anything else.

I’m heading to the Ozarks of NW Arkansas with a group of S2Ks next weekend - they call it the S2K BMT and have been doing it for 10 years now, apparently. People are coming in from all over!

There’s Fb, too, but I don’t know if I can add you. Hope you can make it! They limit it to 60 cars, but there might still be room and time to join in.
